99 | A Shocking Reveal [updated 12/16]

A shocking reveal today – according to a press release by the Brantford Police Service, two Ontario, Canada residents have been charged in connection to over $500,000USD in stolen Wayne Gretzky memorabilia.

In a joint investigation with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), several items were recovered after search warrants were executed at five homes across Ontario and Alverta. During the course of the search warrants, police were able to recover various items of memorabilia including multiple game-used sticks, gloves, pants, jerseys, and a Player-of-the-Year award. All items stolen from the home of Walter Gretzky, in Brantford, Ontario – where Wayne grew up.

December 16, 2020: Today the OPP announced, the second person charged in the incident is a senior OPP officer from eastern Ontario. June Dobson, the Grenville OPP Detachment Commander, is a 28-year veteran on the force and a long time Gretzky-family friend.

Police have also arrested a family friend named Ken Hadall, 58, of Oakville, and charged him with theft over $5,000 and possession over $5,000.

Per the statement released yesterday, in addition, during the course of the investigation, police also uncovered evidence of a second individual, unrelated to the initial investigation, who is believed to have committed a fraud involving a hockey stick.

As a result of the search warrants executed on December 8, 2020, two individuals were arrested and charged under the Criminal Code.

  • A 58 year-old-male from Oakville is charged with Theft Over $5,000 and Possession Over $5,000
  • A 58 year-old female from Brockville is charged with Fraud Over $5,000 and Breach of Trust

The investigation is on-going.
