Avalanche Acquire Jonas Johansson from Sabres

Buffalo Sabres’ Goaltender Jonas Johansson has been traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 6th round pick.

The 25-year-old was drafted 61st overall in 2014 by Buffalo and has been under contract with the organization since 2017.

Johansson spent most of his professional career in the ECHL until the 2019-2020 season where he want 14-4-3 with the Rochester Americans.

Johansson’s NHL career started last season. He started 5 games for Buffalo. This season Johansson began the year on the Sabre’s Taxi squad. He has since made 6 starts this far in the season, going 0-5-0 with a GAA of 3.79 and an .884 save percentage. Johansson is seeing an average of over 33 shots faved per game.

The Colorado Avalanche have been without Pavel Francouz this entire season. He is on the long term injured reserve with a lower body injury. Hunter Miska has been the backup behind Philip Grubauer.

Johansson has 13 total NHL games played while Miska has 6 in his career. We can expect the more experienced goaltender will take the backup role.
