Fantasy Football: Start/Sit Week 8

Hi, it’s Aaron Truesdale and I’m back and ready to give you the fantasy advice you need for the upcoming NFL season. Also, I answer any fantasy questions you may have every Thursday morning through Sunday on Facebook under various fantasy football groups. Be sure to follow me on Twitter.

Now, let me tell you a little bit about my start/sit column. Each week I will be giving my top 3 starts & my top 3 sits at each position. There will be a start & sit of the week at each position with projections. My column will not include the automatic starters. Automatic starters are guys you don’t bench unless they’re injured or on a bye week. I am going to give 2 examples of automatic starters at each position. QB: Josh Allen & Patrick Mahomes, RB: Christian McCaffery & Dalvin Cook, WR: Tyreke Hill & Stefon Diggs, TE: Travis Kelce & George Kittle, K: Justin Tucker & Harrison Butker. For defenses, Pittsburgh Steelers & Los Angeles Rams. Now, I’ve added a twist to my article that will mention a sleeper of the week at each position who did not make my top 3 starters list. Also, a player that is most likely on the waiver wire that you can stream if you’re in a jam at a position. Let’s get it going with Week 8!

START

Joe Burrow vs NYJ

Bengals' Joe Burrow becoming top-10 QB after win at Ravens

Projection: 36/41|420 YDS|3 TDS|5 CAR|45 YDS|1 TD

Look what Burrow did to that solid Ravens defense. Now Burrow gets the Jet’s defense he will have another monster game. The Bengals made a statement against the Ravens that they are no fluke this team is for real.

Daniel Jones vs KC

That Kansas City defense can’t stop anyone right now. It will be no different for the Giants. Daniel Jones will run all over the Chiefs literally and figuratively.

Carson Wentz vs TEN

Wentz makes a rare appearance on the start side of my article. Wentz is getting better each week and last week how he threw the ball in that terrible San Francisco weather was even more impressive. He will take another step forward and rip the Titans defense to shreds.

SIT

Tua Tagovailoa vs BUF

Projection: 15/43|187 YDS|3 INTS|1 FL|6 CAR|25 YDS|1 TD

Tua went from start of the week to sit of the week because that Bills defense is top-notch. He had only a solid game against a not-so-good Falcons defense. The Bill’s defense will be too much for Tua to handle. Plus in my eyes, the Dolphins don’t seem to have too much confidence in him with them trying to trade for Watson.

Teddy Bridgewater vs WAS

Bridgewater hasn’t been performing up to the standards that were expected of him and look for Bridgewater to continue his downward spiral so much so that I believe he will get benched for Drew Lock. This game will give that Washington defense the confidence boost it needs to get back to the defense they were last year.

Trevor Lawrence vs SEA

Lawrence will be refreshed coming off of the bye week but he is going to get tired pretty quick against a Seattle defense that has been playing better football lately. That just spells trouble this week for Lawrence.

SLEEPER

Geno Smith vs. JAX

If you play matchups or need a bye week fill-in I would go with Geno Smith because that Jaguars defense is horrid. Plus Smith will shred that Jaguars defense with his arm and his legs.

START

D’Andre Swift vs PHI

NY Jets Fantasy Football: Winners and losers from Week 7

Projection: 12 CAR|101 YDS|1 TD|8 REC|85 YDS|1 TD

Swift would be considered a top 10 fantasy football RB if he played for a different team. Swift volume is too good in that Lions offense to look past. So don’t make a mistake start Swift against a mediocre at best Eagles defense. Swift will be a swift start this week in fantasy football.

Darrell Henderson vs HOU

Henderson had an off game but look for him to bounce back against a terrible Texans defense. The Rams will go up big early and run the ball more later in the game which means more volume for Henderson and he will make the best out of all the extra carries.

James Connor vs GB

Connor has gotten new life in Arizona. Connor has outproduced Edmonds and is getting better each week and that will continue as the season progresses. Plus his touchdown upside is another reason to start Connor against the Packers.

SIT

Mike Davis vs CAR

Projection: 3 CAR|7 YDS

Mike Davis is trash. He should be dropped in all fantasy football formats. Enough said.

Elijah Mitchell vs CHI

Mitchell ran the ball well last week against the Colts. This week against the Bears I believe they will use Hasty more than Mitchell and fewer carries means less production. I for one hope I am wrong because I have Mitchell on a couple of my fantasy football teams.

Myles Gaskins vs BUF

So if the pattern continues for Gaskin this week will be a no-show game for him. Plus the Dolphins will have to pass more to try and keep up with the Bills offense. That Bills defense is too good therefore Gaskins and the Dolphins will be stopped dead in their tracks.

SLEEPER

Kenneth Gainwell vs DET

Sanders is probably going to be out this week and that will hugely open the door for Gainwell and he will gain fantasy football attention in a big way. So if you need a great fill-in player this week pick up and start Gainwell. Be sure to stash him as well.

START

D.J. Moore vs ATL

Best Player Props for D.J. Moore: Week 8 Carolina Panthers vs. Atlanta Falcons | BestOdds

Projection: 7 REC|115 YDS|2 TDS

Moore has had a couple of dud games in a row but he will bounce back against that trashy Falcons defense. So don’t bench him quite yet and you won’t regret your decision of sticking with Moore. Darnold will also use this game to get back on track and that is good news for Moore as well.

Mike Williams vs NE

Williams is fresh coming off a bye week and that is bad news for the Patriots. He will be a total nightmare for the Patriot’s secondary. He will be Bill Belichick and the Patriots Freddy Krueger.

Adam Thielen vs DAL

Thielen will be the Cowboy’s kryptonite this week. The Cowboys will focus on shutting down Jefferson and Cook like a lot of teams do and Thielen becomes the forgotten weapon and because of that, he will haunt the Cowboys.

SIT

Brandin Cooks vs. LAR

Projection: 3 REC|23 YDS

Let face it Cooks is the only true weapon for the Texans. I got one name for you, Jalen Ramsey. Just bench Cooks.

Jarvis Landry vs. PIT

Landry is a good receiver but that Steelers secondary is no joke and shouldn’t be overlooked. Landry will not be shut out and will make a few catches and have a few yards but it just won’t be enough production to be fantasy relevant.

Julio Jones vs IND

Jones is too injury-prone and is hard to trust right now in fantasy football. Jones is also more of a distraction right now to get Brown open in the Titan’s offense.

SLEEPER

Russell Gage vs CAR

The Panther’s defense hasn’t been all that good lately. Gage could see a lot more targets with Pitts and Ridley playing so well. Which will mean more fantasy production from Gage. So if you need a fill-in WR and a sneaky play pick up and start Gage. On a side note, this was going to be Lazard because Adams went on the Covid list but unfortunately, I had to change it because Lazard ended up on the Covid list as well.

START

Zach Ertz vs GB

Zach Ertz debuts in Arizona with a TD reception

Projection: 6 REC|70 YDS|3 TDS

Ertz will be another huge weapon going forward for that explosive Cardinals offense. Now on a short week and Hopkins not practicing there is a slight chance he won’t play even though I believe Hopkins will play. Either way, Ertz is valuable this week because if D-Hop doesn’t play Ertz will be relied on a lot more, and even if D-Hop does play he is banged up and Ertz will be there to pick up that slack as well. Ertz is a can’t miss start at TE this week in fantasy football.

Dallas Goedert vs DET

Goedert will see plenty more targets now that Ertz is gone and those targets will turn into better production. Goedert is up against a lackluster Lions defense so he will be in for a big day. Don’t hesitate to start him.

Hunter Henry vs LAC

Henry is up against an underwhelming Chargers defense. So I haven’t been impressed with Jones’s performance so far but he is a rookie and will get better but Henry will still be good for 2 touchdowns this week.

SIT

Noah Fant vs WAS

Projection: 2 REC|11 YDS

Fant’s QB Situation isn’t ideal right now and the Washington defense will get back on track this week. So for those reasons leave Fant on your bench.

Dalton Schultz vs MIN

Vikings are top 10 in shutting down opposing tight ends this season. Plus there are many weapons in that offense and Schultz doesn’t get many touchdowns. With that said just look past him this week.

Mo Allie-Cox vs. TEN

Cox is going to be hit or miss this season also he is touchdown-dependent and with Hilton likely to be back again this week that means fewer targets for Cox in the red zone and that means Cox is best left on the waiver wire.

SLEEPER

C.J. Uzomah vs. NYJ

Uzomah is breaking out and becoming a big weapon for Burrow and this week against the horrid Jets defense he could be in line for another huge day. So if you got bye week and injury bug blues pick up and start Uzomah. Then hold onto Uzomah because he could be one of those pickups that help you win your fantasy football Championship.

For Kickers and Defense. I’m only going to give a projection and an Explanation for the starts/sits of the week. The rest of the top 3 will just be listed with no explanation.

START

Evan McPherson vs NYJ

Evan McPherson's 53-yard field goal extends Bengals' 4th-quarter lead

Projection: 5 XPS|3 FGS

Bengals will be scoring plenty of points this week which leads to plenty of fantasy points for McPherson.

Greg Zuerlein vs MIN

Matt Gay vs HOU

SIT

Ka’imi Fairbairn vs LAR

Projection: 1 MFG

The Texans will be shut down by that stout Rams defense which means not many kicking opportunities for Fairbairn which equals a bad fantasy football day.

Jason Sanders vs BUF

Mason Crosby vs ARI

SLEEPER

Greg Joesph vs DAL

The Vikings will score plenty of points so therefore if you need a Kicker to fill your bye week then pick up Joesph and you won’t be disappointed.

START

Cincinnati vs New York Jets

Cincinnati Bengals defense is motivated after poor season

Projection: 0 PTS|200 YDS|10 SKS| 2 INTS|2 FF|2 FR|1 TD

The Jets offense is one of the worst offenses in the NFL. The Bengals are a top 5 defense this season in the NFL. So you do math start the Bengals defense with confidence this week and maybe the rest of the season.

Buffalo Bills vs Miami

Washington vs. Denver

SIT

New England vs Los Angeles Chargers

Projection: 46 PTS|502 YDS|4 SKS

Patriots defense faces a Chargers team that is coming off a bad loss and a bye week. That will make them fresher than the Patriots. Also unfortunately for the Patriots, the Chargers will come out with an offensive explosion and bounce back in a huge way.

Arizona vs Green Bay

Dallas vs Minnesota

SLEEPER

Seattle vs Jacksonville

The Seattle defense was complete trash to start this season but lately, they have been getting better and better as the season has progressed and I look for that trend to continue against a horrible Jaguars football team. So if you play matchups or need a fill-in at defense. Fly with the Seahawks.

I had a lot of fun writing this and I hope all of my week 8 start/sit advice helps everyone. I’ll be back next week with more fantasy start/sit advice.

NHL | Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman Out [updated 10/26]

BREAKING NEWS out of Chicago on Tuesday morning as team CEO Danny Wirtz revealed that GM Stan Bowman stepped down from his position with the team following the conclusion of an independent investigation into former video coach Brad Aldrich’s alleged sexual assault of a Blackhawks player in 2010.

In addition, the NHL has fined the Blackhawks organization $2M for “the organization’s inadequate internal procedures and insufficient and untimely response in the handling of matters related to former video coach Brad Aldrich’s employment with the Club and ultimate departure in 2010,” the league announced Tuesday. The results of the independent review by Jenner & Block were released in a virtual press briefing that included Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz, CEO Danny Wirtz, and lead investigator Reid Schar. The findings were made available to the public shortly after.

The Blackhawks and the NHL have agreed to dedicate $1M of the fine to fund local organizations in and around the Chicago community “that provide counseling and training for, and support and assistance to, survivors of sexual and other forms of abuse.”

On Thursday, further details emerged in the lawsuit against the Chicago Blackhawks regarding Brad Aldrich. The suit states that in May 2010, Aldrich turned on pornography at his apartment and began to masturbate in front of the plaintiff. It also goes on to state that Aldrich blocked the exit and threatened the player with a small baseball bat saying he’d never play in the NHL again if he didn’t engage in nonconsensual sexual activity.

A screenshot from the lawsuit also states that for years after the abuse, the player was subject to homophobic and “humiliating trash talking by his teammates during scrimmages where coaches were present.”

This shortly after Blackhawks executive, Stan Bowman, pledged to cooperate with an investigation into the sexual assault allegations filed by two players in 2010 against the then video coach.

Back on May 14, 2021 an unnamed former Chicago Blackhawks player who was a member of the 2010 Stanley Cup winning team, filed a lawsuit accusing the Blackhawks organization of ignoring allegations that he and an unidentified teammate were sexually assaulted by video coach, Brad Aldrich in May of 2010.

Blackhawks sexual assault scandal: Motion to dismiss lawsuit from Michigan student filed - Chicago Sun-Times

Is the NHL Doing Enough?

Now, just over a month after the above allegations, a new report suggests that players on the 2010 Stanley Cup winning team – perhaps every player – knew of the alleged abuse of the two players on the team.

Katie Strang, Mark Lazerus, and Scott Powers of The Athletic reported that a former player on the 2010 team indicated every player would come to find out about the allegations against Aldrich during the Western Conference Finals round of the playoffs that year against the San Jose Sharks.

It was then, at the team hotel and local bars, that word spread among the players that two teammates had accused video coach Brad Aldrich of sexual assault, alleging the he got them drunk and tried to perform oral sex on them.

From The Athletic’s report

Every guy on the team knew about it, every single guy on the team knew.

Unidentified player, Chicago Blackhawks (2010)

Brad Aldrich has been accused of sexually assaulting and harassing two unnamed former players on the Chicago Blackhawks 2009-2010 team. A second lawsuit has been filed against the Blackhawks organization, alleging they had knowledge of the incident in 2010, yet still provided Aldrich with positive recommendations for future employment, which helped him join future college and high school hockey programs after his departure from the team in 2010. There are also allegations against the Blackhawks citing team management knew about the abuse allegations during the 2010 postseason after the team’s skills coach, Paul Vincent, met with Stan Bowman, John McDonough, Al MacIsaac, and James Gary, and did not report Aldrich to the Chicago Police.

Recent developments also suggest that the incidents involving the former players and Aldrich were an “open secret” around the organization. The Athletic’s report also goes on to indicate:

Nick Boynton’s story does in fact backup the previous report that Paul Vincent did in fact have a meeting with high-ranking front office members. However, the allegations went unreported to authorities, Brad Aldrich remained with the team throughout the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and celebrated the Stanley Cup win over the Philadelphia Flyers. Though he did leave the team in 2010, the Blackhawks organization did not disclose the reasons behind his departure.

I was told to steer clear of him because he had tried something at his apartment on a few players. This was not something that only a few people knew about. The entire training staff, a lot of people knew… this was an open secret.

Former Blackhawks Marketing Official

Montreal Canadiens current GM, Marc Bergevin, was with the Blackhawks in 2010 as the team’s director of player personnel and said he was not aware of any such conduct by Aldrich.

2013 | Aldrich Sentenced to 9 Months In Jail

When Aldrich left the Hawks’ organization in 2010, he took a job on the coaching staff of a high school hockey team in Houghton, Michigan. Three years later, he pleaded guilty to charges of criminal sexual conduct with a 17-year-old teenager. He was sentenced to 9 months in jail. The Blackhawks were used as a reference by Aldrich, according to a lawsuit filed by his teenage victim. This conviction also landed him on Michigan’s sex offender registry.

We had no hint of inappropriateness [at his previous jobs]. Even if we did background checks, there was nothing from the Blackhawks that would have saved [the player].

Brad Aldrich also had a job with Ohio’s Miami University hockey team in 2012 but was only there for five months and his time there was being investigated.

What bothers me is they fired him, but they didn’t take it to the cops. They let him get a job with a U-18 team. They let him go work with minors. They let this happen.

Unidentified player, Chicago Blackhawks (2010)

Sexual Allegations at Miami University

On June 9th, Miami University publicly confirmed there were two sexual assault claims involving Aldrich during his five-month stint after leaving Chicago. The Oxford, Ohio university acknowledged the existence of the second claim after WBEZ had reported that a former student came forward in 2018 alleging Aldrich had sexually assaulted him in 2012.

On November 27, 2012 – Brad Aldrich voluntarily resigned from his position with Miami University.

Latest Developments

These latest claims now tie at least seven individuals with allegations involving Aldrich that are documented in court complaints and investigative police reports.

As of today, Susan Loggans, the lawyer for one of the unidentified Chicago Blackhawks players indicated the player will not cooperate with a team-financed investigation claiming the organization has known all along, denying in court documents that the alleged events even took place. “Why would we have any faith now in an investigation that has been paid for by the Blackhawks… Also, there is no assurance from anyone, not at the Blackhawks and not at the NHL, that the results of the team’s investigation will be made public. … Why would we bother to participate in an investigation that may ultimately be buried and hidden from public view?”

The unidentified player filed his lawsuit against Chicago back in May and former Blackhawks associate coach, John Torchetti recently confirmed that the organization discussed the events, however, never took the matter to the police. After Torchetti’s confirmation, the Chicago Blackhawks organization hired a former federal prosecutor to lead a team-financed, independent review of the allegations 11 years after the incident was said to have taken place.

NHL Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daly, has made a statement indicating that the NHL has been in contact with the Chicago Blackhawks organization regarding the matter, and that an official investigation into the allegations against the team and Brad Aldrich has not been opened at this time.

NFL Week 8 | Picks & Predictions

Fresh off a 9-4 week improving my record this year to 71-36. We finally have a good Thursday night game these week with a bunch of key conference and division games as well. I’m feeling more and more confident each week in my picks as we are beginning to see what teams are contenders and pretenders. Can I keep up my momentum? Lets get to the picks and find out. As always comment on the bottom of the page and let me know what you think of my picks and give me your picks as well.

Thursday Night Football Game

Packers place WR Davante Adams on reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Cardinals game - Acme Packing Company

Green Bay Packers (6-1) @ Arizona Cardinals (7-0)

With star WR Davante Adams going on the Covid list I have to give the edge here to Arizona. Arizona is returning star pass rusher Chandler Jones and with Arizona already playing so well coming into this game I have no reason to believe they will lose this game. It will be a cllse game dont get me wrong but in the end I am going with the home team on Thursday night. The one and only undefeated team stays undefeated.

Winner: Cardinals 29-23

Sunday Afternoon Football Games

Carolina Panthers vs Atlanta Falcons Prediction, Game Preview

Carolina Panthers (3-4) @ Atlanta Falcons (3-3)

These two teams are trending in two different directions. The Panthers look like a shell of what they were the first few weeks of the season and Atlanta has looked much improved the last few weeks. So, I’m going to take the hotter team and the home team. Besides I can’t trust Sam Darnold right now as awful as he has looked the last few weeks. Falcons win a game that’s not as close as the score will indicate.

Winner: Falcons 24-17

Buffalo Bills vs Miami Dolphins: Score updates, odds, time, TV channel, how to watch free live stream online (9/20/2020) - oregonlive.com

Miami Dolphins (1-6) @ Buffalo Bills (4-2)

Bills win. I hate both teams but Miami is an embarrassment right now. Bills win easy.

Winner: Buffalo 30-10

Kyle Shanahan doesn't commit to Jimmy Garoppolo as 49ers' starting QB for Week 8 at Bears - CBSSports.com

San Francisco 49ers (2-4) @ Chicago Bears (3-4)

The Bears are going to ruin Justin Fields. This game to me is a toss up because both teams look bad. I’m going with the 49ers based off the fact I think they just have the better overall team even though they haven’t showed it in weeks. This is probably going to be the most boring game of the week.

Winner: 49ers 20-13

If Cleveland Browns pull off win vs Steelers, all negativity must vanish

Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) @ Cleveland Browns (4-3)

Even without QB Baker Mayfield I don’t trust Pittsburgh or their rapidly declining quarterback. Browns RB Nick Chubb is expected to be back which will help but I think the Browns defense gives Ben fits as Myles Garrett gets 3 sacks as Cleveland wins a low scoring game.

Winner: Browns 17-13

First look: Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions odds and lines

Philadelphia Eagles (2-5) @ Detroit Lions (0-7)

This Lions team plays hard and fought their ass off last week against the Rams. One of these weeks all that hard work will pay off and I think it will be this week. This Eagles team seems like it has already given up on this season. Dan Campbell gets a well deserved first win as the Eagles season continues to spiral down the toilet.

Winner: Lions 21-17

Colts vs Titans live stream: How to watch NFL week 3 game online | Tom's Guide

Tennessee Titans (5-2) @ Indianapolis Colts (3-4)

I just feel an upset here. I don’t really have any rhyme or reason but my gut is telling me that the Colts pull this one off. Maybe it’s just a let down game after Tennessee destroyed Kansas City last week. I don’t know but I am going with the Colts. Don’t let me down Carson Wentz.

Winner: Colts 26-24

Bengals: Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase torch Bears defense for must-see TD

Cincinnati Bengals (5-2) @ New York Jets (1-5)

The old Bengals would lose this game. They just would. Beat a good team then lose to a shit one. These aren’t the same old Bengals (so far) and y’all know better than to think I’ll ever pick the Jets.

Winner: Bengals 31-16

Los Angeles Rams vs. Houston Texans picks, predictions NFL Week 8 game

Los Angeles Rams (6-1) @ Houston Texans (1-6)

Blowout. Rams win big. Easy peasy.

Winner: Rams 34-9

Sunday Evening Football Games

Chargers Game Sunday: Chargers vs Patriots odds and prediction for Week 8 NFL game

New England Patriots (3-4) @ Los Angeles Chargers (4-2)

Mac Jones is ballin. The Chargers home field advantage as we know is overrated and coming off a thrashing by the Ravens two weeks ago are they ready to rebound against a mentally tough Patriots team who seem to have got it back on track. The answer to me is no. Former Charger TE Hunter Henry catches two touchdown as New England reinserts themselves right into the thick of the AFC Playoff hunt.

Winner: Pats 27-23

Seattle Seahawks v Jacksonville Jaguars | Lumen Field | Koobit

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5) @ Seattle Seahawks (2-5)

Neither team is playing well but I’ll never pick an Urban Meyer coached team over a Pete Carroll coached team. Back to the club for Urban as Seattle wins.

Winner: Seattle 24-10

NFL odds: Denver Broncos are betting favorites vs. Washington

Washington Football Team (2-5) @ Denver Broncos (3-4)

This is my coin toss game this week. Heads Washington or tails Denver. Tails never fails. Lets go Teddy B.

Winner: Denver 19-13

Highlights from Tampa Bay's Divisional Round win over the New Orleans Saints - Bucs Nation

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-1) @ New Orleans Saints (4-2)

Tom Brady vs Drew Brees… wait never mind. Jameis Winston time is here in New Orleans. He hasn’t played too bad either but this is Tom Brady we are talking about. Tom Brady just threw his 600th touchdown which is insane. I expect him to throw 4 more and make my little sister cry as the Saints get beat easily by the Goat. Sorry Yvonne but you should be used to losing to Tom Brady by now . 🙂

Winner: Bucs 30-19

Sunday Night Football Game

Loss to Vikings proves Cowboys are still a level below the NFC's best

Dallas Cowboys (5-1) @ Minnesota Vikings (3-3)

This is going to be a very good football game. The Vikings have a lot of fight and like Dallas, they have a good running game with weapons all over the field. I predict this to be a high scoring game with a fourth quarter interception by Dallas star CB Trevon Diggs sets up the game winning field goal as Dallas improves to 6-1 and running away with the NFC East.

Winner: Cowboys 31-28

Monday Night Football Game

Giants vs. Chiefs odds, Week 8: Opening betting lines, points spreads plus early movement for NFL matchup - DraftKings Nation

New York Giants (2-5) @ Kansas City Chiefs (3-4)

I don’t know whats been going on with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs but I don’t buy that it’s going to continue. This team just has too much talent on the offensive side of the ball. The ass kicking Tennessee gave them will serve as a wake up call as they destroy the Giants in front of their home fans on Monday night and get back on track. Mahomes I need some damn points in fantasy too by the way. Help a brother out.

Winner: Chiefs 34-16
